IAHN-TP Lecturer Invited as Keynote Speaker at International Conference in Thailand

Mahamakut Buddhist University Isan Campus (MBUIC), Khon Kaen, Thailand, invited Prof. Tiwi Etika, Ph.D., lecturer at Institut Agama Hindu Negeri Tampung Penyang (IAHN-TP) Palangka Raya, as the keynote speaker at the International Academic Conference and Article Critic. The event also featured lecturers from UHN IGB Sugriwa Denpasar and Bhikksu University, Sri Lanka, and took place on June 28–29, 2025, at the MBUIC campus, Khon Kaen Province, Thailand.

At the international conference, Prof. Tiwi Etika, Ph.D., delivered a presentation entitled “Fostering Wisdom and Moral Values through the Ethical Convergence of Buddhist and Hindu Kaharingan Traditions toward Environmental Sustainability.” In her remarks, she highlighted the integration of Buddhist ethical principles, namely the Pancasila and Ariya Atthangika Magga, with the five fundamental beliefs of Hindu Kaharingan known as Lime Sarahan, in relation to environmental sustainability.

Prof. Tiwi Etika further explained the theology of Lime Sarahan as “five forms of self-recognition.” She emphasized that by understanding the origin of human existence, every descendant of Raja Bunu and Kameluh Tanteluh Petak is called to care for nature and the environment. According to her, Lime Sarahan guides individuals to recognize the true essence of humanity as part of the divine cosmic order, originating from and destined to return to the Creator in due time.

“This awareness cultivates the view that nature is not an external object but a sacred kin. Thus, the duty to care for the environment cannot be separated from the duty to care for oneself (nature is not ‘other,’ but an extension of the self),” Prof. Tiwi Etika explained.
