Scientific Dialogue Explores the Relationship Between Hindu Kaharingan and Dayak Customs

IAHNTP News,– The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Dharma Duta and Brahma Widya (FDBW) of Institut Agama Hindu Negeri Tampung Penyang (IAHN-TP) Palangka Raya held a Scientific Dialogue under the theme “Understanding the Relationship Between Hindu Kaharingan and Dayak Customs.” The event took place at the Student Center Hall, 3rd Floor, on Thursday (9/10).

The dialogue featured Tobie Suswoyo, S.H., M.H., a Basir (religious leader), who is a cultural expert renowned for his deep understanding of the interrelation between Hindu Kaharingan teachings and Dayak customs and traditions.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Dharma Duta and Brahma Widya, Dr. I Wayan Salendra, S.Ag., M.Si. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation to the organizing committee and emphasized the importance of understanding local wisdom and Dayak traditional values in the context of knowledge and spirituality.

“This event serves as an important moment for students to broaden their knowledge and experience. Our speaker today, Basir Tobie, is a former student of mine whose knowledge has greatly benefited the community. As sons and daughters of the Dayak people, we must understand the relationship between Hindu Kaharingan and Dayak customs, as it reflects the close connection between religion, culture, and daily life,” said Dr. I Wayan Salendra.

Meanwhile, Riandi Kurniawan, Chair of the Committee and Governor of BEM FDBW, reported that the dialogue was attended by 150 participants. He stated that the event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the relationship between Hindu Kaharingan teachings and Dayak traditions, thereby strengthening their identity and character as a generation rooted in local cultural values.

Through this scientific dialogue, it is expected that IAHN-TP students will gain a deeper awareness of the synergy between religion, tradition, and local wisdom as the foundation for strengthening spirituality and culture in Central Kalimantan. //Mr//
