IAHN-TP News,– The Entrepreneurship Students Activity Unit (UKM Kewirausahaan) of Institut Agama Hindu Tampung Penyang (IAHN-TP) Palangka Raya organized a workshop themed “Youth Creativity in Organic and Inorganic Waste Processing Toward a Zero-Waste Campus through the 4R Method” on Tuesday (28/10), at the Student Center Hall, 3rd Floor.
The event was officially opened by the Rector of IAHN-TP Palangka Raya, Dr. Mujiyono, S.Ag., M.Ag., and attended by the Head of the Bureau of Administration, Academic, and Cooperation Affairs (AUAK), the Dean of the Faculty of Dharma Sastra, and representatives from several government office and agencies, including the Provincial Youth and Sports Office, the Provincial Environmental Office, the City Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office, the City Environmental Office, Jasa Raharja Regional Office, Palangka Raya Energy Community, PKBM (Community Learning Center), AFINDO (Indonesian Employers Association) Central Kalimantan, as well as students from IAKN, UPR, and IAHN-TP.

In his remarks, Rector Mujiyono expressed his appreciation for the creativity and innovation shown by students through the Entrepreneurship Unit, which turned challenges into opportunities.
“Waste is both a challenge and an opportunity — a challenge for our cleanliness and care, and an opportunity to create economic value. This initiative aligns with the spirit of our cultural campus that embodies the values of Huma Betang and Bumi Tambun Bungai, Bumi Pancasila,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of developing the “Bank Sampah Sahabat Alam” (Eco-Friendly Waste Bank) as a platform for students to process waste into organic fertilizer and develop sustainable innovations.
A representative from the Provincial Environmental Office (DLH) also expressed appreciation for the students’ initiative in applying the 4R method (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replace).
“This activity reflects the spirit of youth who are solution-oriented and productive. DLH is ready to collaborate in waste management education toward a greener and cleaner Palangka Raya,” the representative stated.
Meanwhile, a representative from the City Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Sports Office noted that the workshop aligned with the spirit of Youth Pledge Day.
“May this initiative continue to grow and inspire young generations to establish Palangka Raya as a beautiful and green city,” they said.
In her report, Luh Putu Muliani Handayani, S.Fil.H., M.Fil.H., the supervisor of the Entrepreneurship Student Unit, explained that the workshop was a continuation of a 15-day training program attended by 20 participants, consisting of 19 students and one cleaning staff member.
The program consisted of ten days of field activities and five days of indoor sessions, focusing on waste management through sorting, transportation, and utilization of waste collected from bins and areas around the campus.
As a result, 632.7 kg of organic waste and 190.4 kg of inorganic waste were collected. Organic waste was used as planting media in the laboratory area, while inorganic waste was repurposed into creative works and sold to the Indonesian Waste Bank (BSI).
“We hope these efforts will continue sustainably, inspiring students and young people in Palangka Raya to create a clean, green, and productive campus environment,” said Luh Putu Muliani.
Through this activity, the Entrepreneurship Student Unit of IAHN-TP Palangka Raya reaffirms its commitment to continuous innovation and tangible contribution toward a zero-waste campus, while fostering environmentally conscious entrepreneurship among students. //mr//
