The Founding of IAHN-TP Palangka Raya

History

1983 – Establishment of the Kaharingan Parentas Hindu Religious Teacher Education School (PGAH)

The State Hindu Institute Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan Province, has its roots in the establishment of Kaharingan Parentas Hindu Religious Teacher Education School (PGAH), founded in 1983 under the leadership of Drs. Walter S. Penyang. The school was established under the auspices of Dwi Jendra Foundation, Palangka Raya Branch, as a tangible effort of religious institutions such as the Supreme Council of Kaharingan Hindu Religion (MB-AHK) and the Indonesian Hindu Dharma Association (PHDI) of Central Kalimantan Province.

The establishment of PGAH Parentas was made possible through the dedicated contributions of several prominent figures, including Simal Penyang, Lewis KDR BBA, Drs. Liber Sigai, Drs. Oka Swastika, SH, IDM Greh Putra, Bajik R. Simpei, I Wayan Madu, Drs. Walter S. Penyang, Drs. Kundit U. Djunas, and Drs. Arton S. Dohong

The establishment of PGAH Parentas was driven by the need to prepare qualified human resources in the field of education, specifically for teachers of Kaharingan Hindu Religion at the elementary school level in Central Kalimantan.

1987 – Establishment of the Kaharingan Hindu College Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya

In line with the development of Parentas Kaharingan Hindu Religious Teacher Education School, efforts were made to address the shortage of Hindu Kaharingan teachers at junior high school (SLTP), senior high school (SLTA), and higher education levels, including Diploma II (D.II), Diploma III (D.III), and Bachelor’s Degree (S.1). Through perseverance and various breakthroughs, pioneering figures such as Drs. Liber Sigai, Lewis KDR BBA, Drs. Walter S. Penyang, Drs. Oka Swastika, SH, Drs. I Ketut Muder, M.Si., Drs. Midday, Drs. Debar Siwung, Drs. Rangkap I Nau, Drs. Made Rai Astawa, Drs. Atta, and Drs. I Wayan Karya played a key role in advancing this initiative.

On September 6, 1986, Dwi Jendra Foundation, Palangka Raya Branch, issued Decree No. 02/YDC/PR/IX/1986 establishing the Kaharingan Hindu College Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya (STAHK). Operational permission was subsequently granted by the Directorate General of Hindu and Buddhist Affairs through Letter No. II/PP.009/1189/1987, dated November 4, 1987. At that time, STAHK Tampung Penyang was led by Dean Lewis KDR BBA, and officially registered under the Directorate General of Hindu Affairs of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. In 1992, leadership transitioned to Drs. Rangkap I Nau, who continued as Chairman of STAHK Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya.

2001 – Establishment of the State Hindu College (STAHN) Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya

Given the promising prospects for the future development of STAHK Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya, continuous efforts and breakthroughs were undertaken to elevate its status from a private higher education institution to a state institution. These efforts culminated in the issuance of Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 27 of 2001, February 21, officially establishing the State Hindu College (STAHN) Tampung Penyang Palangka Raya. The institution was then led by Drs. Midday, who was inaugurated as Chairman by the Director General of Hindu and Buddhist Community Guidance of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
